I'm Kelli and I help busy families plan amazing (and magical) vacations without the stress and overwhelm.
Disney with toddlers is a whole vibe. Magical? Yes. Exhausting? Also yes. But here’s the truth: with a little planning (and a lot of grace), Disney with little ones doesn’t have to be overwhelming. In fact, it can be some of the most joyful, memory-making time you’ll ever spend as a family!
We’re no strangers to doing Disney with toddlers in tow and while no trip is ever perfect, I’ve picked up some tricks that keep the meltdowns (mostly) at bay. Here’s my mom-to-mom guide to tackling the parks with your littlest travelers!
Your diaper bag or park bag will be your best friend. Here’s what I always pack for toddlers (and honestly, most of this comes in handy for the whole family!):
And then there are the comfort items—pacifiers, blankets, or stuffies. My biggest tip here: be mindful with those irreplaceable favorites. You know the ones—those sniff-tested loveys that your kiddo cannot sleep without? You may want to leave those in the car or at the resort. It’s way too easy to drop them while strolling or forget them at a dining booth or changing table. If you do bring them, label them clearly with initials or a phone number to up your chances of them being recovered and your littles getting them back.
👉 Pro tip: Pack light but smart. It’s amazing how quickly your bag can go from “essential” to “I’m carrying half my house.” Stick to must-haves, and leave room for souvenirs.
Confession: we brought our own stroller on this trip…and it broke before we even went to a park. 😬 Not exactly the magical start we had in mind. But, like I’ve said before: flexibility is everything and luckily, Disney’s stroller rentals came in clutch.
While they aren’t my first choice (they’re hard plastic and not the coziest), they did the job and saved our backs and our toddler’s attitude. At about $15/day for a single day rental and with discounts for multi-day rentals, it was money well spent.
👉 Pro tip: Even if you only have one child, rent the double stroller. The extra space for bags, snacks, and souvenirs is worth every penny.
For future trips, I recommend using a stroller rental service like Kingdom Strollers. They deliver right to your resort, you can choose what style of stroller you’d like to rent, and their strollers are much comfier than the in-park rentals!
One of the best-kept secrets for families with toddlers is Rider Swap. Here’s how it works: if your little one is too small (or just not ready) for a ride, one adult waits with them while the rest of the group rides. Then, when they’re done, the waiting adult can ride without having to wait in line again.
👉 Mom tip: This is a lifesaver for families with older kids who want to hit the thrill rides. It keeps everyone happy—you don’t have to skip the big rides yourself, your toddler doesn’t feel forced onto something scary, and the older kids still get their fun. Sometimes, the older kids even get to ride twice (once with each parent)!
Toddlers (obviously) have extremely limited stamina. Disney days can be long, hot, and full of stimulation – meltdowns are inevitable if you go full steam all day. Some of our favorite break options:
👉 Pro tip: Sometimes a five-minute sit in the AC with a cold drink and shared treat is all everyone needs to reset.
Not every ride is toddler-friendly, but there are so many they’ll love. At Magic Kingdom alone, you’ve got the best selection including Dumbo, “it’s a small world,” Peter Pan’s Flight, Winnie the Pooh, and Under the Sea. EPCOT has Nemo and Frozen Ever After. Animal Kingdom has the Wildlife Train and Na’vi River Journey. Hollywood Studios has Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway – a little more thrilling but my 3 year old LOVED it!
Here’s the real talk: your toddler will not remember every ride. What they will remember (and what you’ll treasure) are the little things—meeting Mickey, splashing in Journey of Water, waving at a parade, or sharing a Mickey ice cream bar.
Some days will be magical, some will be messy and that’s okay. Take lots of photos, but don’t force every moment. A sleepy smile, a high five, or even a wave from the stroller can still be pure magic.
Disney with toddlers requires a little extra patience, but it’s absolutely worth it! With the right gear, smart breaks, Rider Swap, and realistic expectations, you’ll make memories that last long after the trip.
✨ My biggest advice? Don’t let the logistics scare you. A good stroller, well-timed breaks, and a stash of snacks will get you through almost anything. And if you’d like personalized help planning your trip -including tips like these and more – I’d love to make the process stress-free for you!
